Honeywell Launches Controledge Programmable Logic Controller

ControlEdge PLC, joined with Honeywell’s Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS), provides safe connectivity and tight integration to devices from multiple vendors, with simple settings, efficient operations, and reduced care. ControlEdge PLC uses OPC UA built-in and protocol cyber security for easy integration to a variety of equipment, instruments and applications from multiple sellers. ControlEdge PLC is the first PLC to offer Universal I/O, providing remote configuration and late design change flexibility for improved project implementation.

By leveraging Honeywell’s LEAP™ job execution methodology and Universal I/O technology when joined “Designed to be an exceptional offering with any procedure or SCADA system, ControlEdge PLC produces an unique integration ability. Jobs that combine Experion and ControlEdge PLC eliminate the impact of late I/O changes, can benefit from significantly reduced project risk, and dramatically simplify project performance said vice president of HPS’ Process Measurement and Management business, Jason Urso. “Further, with Honeywell supplying both distributed control systems (DCS) and PLC, we simplify procedure operations by providing equipment with common lifecycle and an extremely dependable integration connection versus a custom interface. This integrated offering provides significant lifecycle cost savings, higher reliability and less engineering.”

ControlEdge PLC is focused on process industries requiring discrete control for specific PLC applications, for example water treatment; equilibrium of plant modular gear, terminal automation, and coal/ash management. The PLC will be offered to end users, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies.

“Plants seek to maximize their return on assets (ROA) by making sure that their automation investments are scalable, future-proof, stick to open standards, and can seamlessly integrate to present assets, avoiding having to “rip and replace” present infrastructure,” said Craig Resnick, vice president, ARC Advisory Group.

The emergence of the IIoT represents a digital transformation of manufacturing that shifts the source of competitive advantage from actual machinery and toward info. Built on a platform that is proven and capable, ControlEdge supplies an IIoT-ready open platform that empowers users to better leverage information across their assets.
